Anti-vaxxers are anti-capitalism!
All through last year, Right wingers didn’t want to ‘shut down’ in order to ‘save the economy’.
This year, they aren't willing to mandate vaccinations, despite the damage that not having broad vaccinations throughout the population, will do to the economy.
Healthy people produce stuff. They also consume products and services of a quite staggering variety.
The main services and products that sick people consume are healthcare related. Someone hooked up to a respirator doesn't produce anything at all (cept maybe human waste products).
A healthcare system has a finite limit. Once you run out of workers and beds, not only does the system consume more resources in order to maintain function, these functions slow and become inefficient.
Sick people also tend to be uninterested in voting so you could also label anti-vaxxers as anti democratic too.
They say, that there are no atheist in fox holes. I’m wondering if there aren't any anti-vaxxers wearing respirators in an ICU?
Turns out that a brush with death doesn't necessarily change an anti-vaxxers opinion.
I was watching the news recently and there was an interview about an old guy lying in an ICU in 'the States'. He had just been cleared to go home.
He had been suffering from Covid 19 for six months, and despite being hooked up to a ventilator, pumped full of drugs, and under 24/7 observation by highly trained medical staff, he was still glad that he hadn't had the vaccine.
That's six months that that bed couldn't be used for someone who had been in a car crash. Those facilities couldn't be used for a bad pregnancy, a severe allergic reaction, or a victim of violent crime.
He obviously feels that he is more important than these other patents. Most of them didn’t have a choice when they needed an ICU bed.
Rather than choosing to accept a $30 vaccine, he has decided that thousands of dollars of hospital care was better spent helping him cling to life.
In NZ we have a public health system, so the choice not to have a vaccine is an individual choosing to chew through everyone else's tax dollars.
That money could be spent on roads, or teachers, or better water supplies.
I just want to highlight the price tag and human cost of someone's choice.
