It’s a new year! Whoop Whoop!

In the past week, someone wished me a ‘happy Christmas and hoping 2022 is a better year for all’.
I thought it was a bit weird cause I’ve had a pretty good past coupla of years.
I never expected the party to last forever so for a while now, I've been prepping my life for some sort of world bending event.

I feel that 2021 has shown us the true impotence of Libertarians.

Tips for surviving the future…
Get as far away from the equator as you reasonably can without sacrificing standard of living.
Get surrounded by a thumping big moat
Get rid of any large debts.

In Augest I made a prediction that the Oz election was going to be in March (read here)
Mainly because I thought that Oz would still be in the throws of mismanaging the pandemic. I almost thought I was going to be proved wrong with Delta, but then Omicron arrived.

What follows is some homeless bits collected during the year that need to be published. What follows is a bit ‘stream of consciousness’ and though I’ve tried to edit it to improve continuity, it is still a bit disjointed.

But the whole planet is a bit disjointed these days so let's have at it..

On ‘Scotty from marketings’ foreign policy adventures…

When Trump was the Prez, and he was China bashing to divert attention from his inadequacies, Morrison got all excited at the prospect of throwing some geopolitical weight around, and decided to start his own stoush with China.

‘Scotty from marketing’ was betting that Trump was going to hang around for a bit longer, but now that Americans have switched to Binden, Scotty has to ‘carry the can’ himself.

I expected him to pull his head in when Binden was elected.

I guess he thought that the ‘optics’ would expose him as the boot licking lieutenant he truly is.

It will be interesting to see how ‘Scotty from marketing’ governs (governs? ha ha) now that his alpha dog is gone. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates backpedalled pretty quickly on the Qatar blockage once U.S. support evaporated.

I’ve long found it interesting that Oz has developed such a strong sense of self importance.
I don’t remember feeling this vibe in the 80’ and 90’s.
I’m pretty sure it’s a new millennial thing.

Stralia reckons it has the power and prestige in the world that it is afforded a degree of autonomy.
Oz reckons it can swing it’s dick with the big boys. Trash some old allies and rock a few nuke subs.
Much like a teenager discovers that they are subject to the collective will of those around them, Australia is going to have to grow up at some point.

Morrison is saving his dosh for targeted election pork barrelling
Why isn’t quarantine a national matter?'
I've heard it said that Trump was more interested in the accoutrements of being the Pres. then ‘doing the job’. I reckon Morrison is the same.

If you don't actually govern, you can't be held accountable for anything (apart from maybe taking too many holidays).
I've also heard it said that the queen mother was quite unpopular until she stopped expressing an opinion.

On the Oz Labour party…

Labour were bitch’n bout the Liberals pork-barrelling .

Whether the funds that the Liberals were handing out were tracked or not, doesn't change the fact that both parties have played games, and attempted to buy votes with electorates.

Both parties have done this for as long as I've been voting.

The sheer lack of imagination and balls of the current Labour party blows my mind!

The party is really going to have to find a different drum to bang if they want to get back into power. Currently they just sound like whiny little spoil sports.

Precious Prime Minister Rudd was voted for by the people. We later hear that the Labour party can't work with him so they're removing him as leader. I can imagine that it was just Shorten and his cronies that couldn't work with him.
I reckon the electorate were pretty upset that the party removed the leader that they voted for.

There is an old saying I like to dust off whenever there is an American election. Democrats fall in love, and Republicans fall into line. Labour as a party needs to fall in love, and dare I say it, fall into line

Labour will continue to lose, until Shorten decides to get out of politics and get into investment banking. That is where retired labour politicians from New South Wales seem to end up???

Honestly, the hardest thing for me in all of this, is the amount of money the opposition gets paid. They really don't have any real incentive to win government.

You don’t get to govern unless you get the votes.
You can be the most righteous party on the planet, but if you aren't in the hot seat, you don’t get to steer.
Australians are, compared to the rest of the planet, pretty comfortable.
What we most care about is ‘who makes us feel good’.

Unfortunately it's about charm. I’ve just realised that ‘Scotty from marketing’ is the Liberals Bob Hawke.

Money and borders only work through human trust…

What has happened over the last couple of decades is an erosion in the world's trust in North American decisions.

This isn’t exclusive to Trump. I would argue that there has been a gradual creep of disillusionment which has accelerated with both G.W Bush and Clinton (Clinton's).

Bush was obviously incompetent and lied about Iraq. Watching Colin Powell lie to the U.N. was a defining moment for my changing perceptions of the U.S. Usually they just did what they wanted, but now they needed the other countries to be implicated.

Both the Clinton's have given us reasons to distrust their motivations.

While we expect the Republicans to be a bit dirty, what is interesting is the fall from grace of the Democrats. Pretty much mirroring the lack of trust in the ‘Left’ all over the planet.

In reply to someone who thought that people in more multicultural suburbs shouldn’t be fearful of the govt. Over-correction in policy…

The government was so blase about the outbreak while the virus was working its way out of the Eastern suburbs. But now that it's embedded in the western suburbs suddenly the government is freaking out, installing police and army on the streets.
Honestly, the TV images look like something you might see on Al Jazeera.

Recent migrants watch Australia send refugee families to offshore internment camps and might wonder if they are next? Last in, first out?

If these people were living here in the nineties, they would remember the Royal commission into police corruption and wonder who they can trust.

Some seem to feel that N.S.W. is a bastion of liberty and justice? Several past Royal commissions paint a different picture.

I have been to Turkey and have experienced the persistent military presence there.

At one point I had a young guy in a uniform with a machine gun watch over me and a mate while we explored Roman ruins.

I've travelled solo in countries that speak very little English so I feel that I might understand the isolation migrants might feel.

I'm putting myself in the shoes of people who might not speak the language. Who regularly experience the background noise of Ozzie racism.

The race riot in Cronulla is still a recent memory for some people.

On Zac Snyder's flick ‘Army of the Dead’...

For a while now, I’ve had the opinion that any movie set in Los Vegas is shit.
Los Vegas is where filmmakers go when they have run out of ideas.
I’ve been to Los Vagus, and it is in fact, shit.
Zombie films are a metaphor for fears of overpopulation.
It’s ok to kill zombies, they aren’t people anymore.
Most movies at least try to disguise the fact that zombies are still people by making zombies shambling and mindless
Zac Snyder isn’t even making an effort as his zombies seem to be intelligent and pretty much human.
I’ve heard that Zac is a fan of Ayan Rand.

Racism…

What is the difference between a black power fist pump, or a Myanmar citizens hunger games inspired gesture, and a Nazi salute?
One of them has power, the others don't.

The hardest thing I find when discussing something with someone who's racist, is that they don't seem to realise that they are a racist.
Much like the difficulties one experiences with talking to somebody who is stupid. They don't realise that they're a bit thick

Corporate culture…

I’ve been a bit disappointed with Google since Larry and Sergey stepped back and up, when they created Alphabet.
I’m one of those dreamers that thought that Google actually had some sort of moral backbone, when the pair ran the company directly.

A company changes when the founders have moved on and it’s run by the people who assume the reins.
These people are constantly competing with the founders' legacy. They don’t have the imagination or drive to start a company. Their main imperative seems to be money and what prestige can be extracted from their job description.
What ‘moral code’ Google might have had, is gently chipped away by these successive generations who need to grab growth (through marketing and momentum) and dosh to demonstrate their achievements.

Youtube used to pay every contributor that had a Youtube and Adsense account. Now there are many hoops to leap through before remuneration appears.
I can’t think of a Google product that now does not have any sort of a charge associated with it?
‘Let’s do some military contracting’ they said! (this went a bit pear shaped as most of the rank-and-file were still ‘true believers’)

Without creative and driven people running the company, all Google can now do is defend their market domination.

Religion…

I’m thinking that the lack of separation of church and state is maybe going a little bit too far, in the U.S.

I have formed a ‘bit of an opinion’ that the ancient middle-east's pursuit of knowledge and progressive culture was destroyed by religion.

I can see the U.S. succumbing to the same cultural and technological regression.

Religions really don’t like being subject to the ‘laws of men’.
