Dave's position of Storyboards and the DLF Houdini project.
On the subject of 'storyboards.'
I would argue that we should overlook story boards and build animatics.
What do you think?
I would argue that we should overlook story boards and build animatics.
- Animatics could be built in Houdini, and learning Houdini is one of the aims of the exercise.
- Animatics can be built very quickly.
- Reframing of shots can be accomplished very quickly.
- Audio can be introduced.
- Animatics are becoming very popular in pre-production these days usurping the traditional role of the storyboard
- I'm wondering how much of an animatic can be carried over into the production proper, thus saving resources?
What do you think?
Sounds interesting. The only thing is, it's kind of hard to move forward without a script. Whether we use animatics, or at what stage is largely dependent on what is happening in each scene, as well as what is contained in them. If we had something like a shooting script, it would be easier to create props, etc. for an animatic. Plus, it would cut down on double handling etc. I would like to hear others opinions on this. Cheers, Matt.
