Sunday covid 19 update : I am the chairman of the bored
My Facebook stream has become really sparse recently. I’m trying to work out what's going on. Some people are posting normally but many others have stopped. Then there are a few that have massively increased their postings.
I’ve realised that the ‘suddenly quiet' ones, and the ‘really noisy’, all have a religious ‘bent’.
Conspiracy theories flourish when someone doesn't understand what the world around them is doing. For the world to ‘make sense’ to these people, a problem has to be imagined into existence.
One might disagree with the government's position, or a scientific discovery, or one does not like the neighbour four doors down. If there's no real problem to be found, one needs to be created with fabrications, false connections, and bogus references.
It’s a bit hard for the current conspiracy memes to take hold here in New Zealand. The government's response to the pandemic has worked so well, it’s hard to argue with the very tangible results.
These ‘spiritual beings’ have some particular problems with some laws. They don’t mind the traffic code but wearing masks is highly offensive. They fear the possibility of being microchipped and tracked, but most still use their cell phones.
They seem to think that there is this big impending event called the ‘great awakening’. Which looks like a new label for armageddon, or the end times, when Christ returns and the rapture is triggered.
As has happened many times in the past I think they're going to be a bit disappointed. There is no God, and there will not be any ‘second coming’, and there will not be any great awakening of the faithful.
After this current worldwide calamity has ended, much like after the second and first world wars, and Vesuvius, etc, etc, they're gonna go back to waiting for the next big global shit fight.
I think that this will be my last ‘rant’ for a while...
