Covid 19 : Day 1 of lock-down two: The second coming
This is the first time that the whole country has been in level four lock-down for eighteen months.
Weird waking up to the sort of peace you would expect if you were in the wilderness, or floating about in the middle of the ocean.
Very similar to the last Lock-down, though Last year it was the U.S. that was falling apart at the seams. This time around, it's Australia.
This link will take you back, wayyyyyyy back...
This lockdown should be short and sweet so I this time around, I haven't stocked up on craft supplies.
Went for a socially distanced walk this morning and the streets and beach are deserted. Cars all parked neatly in driveways.
I keep hearing comments about how compliant Kiwis are.
I don’t know if that is true.
I think the reason most people here are ‘towing the line’ is because they feel that their government is competent and benevolent.
We are given all the information they need to make an informed decision. The one oclock briefing to the nation today was full of useful info.
And this time around, all the politicians need to say is ‘look at Australia’ and everyone jumps into line.
During the week I’ve been invited to get vaccinated by SMS, then by email, and also in the mail today was a letter of invitation.
Nice to know that Aeoteroa is only interested in the best, so it will be the Pfizer jab for me.

What’s different this time around?
The nation has a vaccine jacked into forty percent of the population.
We now have a trove of information on this virus.
We know how quickly life can go back to normal if we stamp on the outbreak quickly.
For eighteen months we’ve watched the rest of the planet screw their responses to the virus. Though this time around the virus has mutated a couple of times, and it’s now more dangerous, this time we know what we’re doing.
Stop the virus from spreading and you stop the virus.
Lots of notices appearing on FB and in emails from businesses advising that they won't be open for the next three days. The only thing available to the general public are local corner shops, supermarkets, and petrol stations.
A high point to the day was collecting the mail and finding this gem...

Despite living in possibly the sanest country on the planet, there are always going to be the fruit loops hiding under a mushroom somewhere. The guy delivering these had luck on his side. An elderly resident a few doors down from me found out about these little ‘scraps of crazy’, soon after this guy had departed the scene. My neighbour has been vaccinated, and was going to give this ‘distributor of stupid’ a large piece of his mind, and possibly the back of his hand.
The neighbour (much to the consternation of his wife) consoled himself by writing a strongly worded letter to the local church, telling them in so many words ‘to shut up and stay put’. It’s a bloody lock-down.
